BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcat volleyball team began their tough three-game homestand Friday evening and fell the #7 Washburn Lady Blues in straight sets. 
The first set was a battle with SBU (9-13, 2-4 MIAA) leading through the first part at 13-10 before the visitors would rally to go up 15-13. The two teams were within two points of each until 22 each before WU would take the final three points. Washburn (21-2, 5-2 MIAA) controlled the second set, winning 25-11. In the third set, SBU started well leading at 4-1 and 10-8 before the Lady Blues finish out the match 25-18, never trailing in the third after taking the lead at 11-10.
"When our girls executed our game plan, we saw very good things," said head coach Kelly Richardson. "We have to focus on consistency. We look forward to getting back in the gym tomorrow and bettering our program."
Alex Smith led with nine kills and 12 digs. Brianna Wallace had 24 assists for the Bearcats. Mollie Lacy had 11 kills for Washburn while Molly Smith had 12 digs.
The Bearcats are right back in action tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 p.m. in the Meyer Sports Center against Fort Hays State, as SBU wraps up Homecoming festivities.
