BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The soccer Bearcats extended their unbeaten streak to two, after a 2-2 tie against the Washburn Lady Blues. SBU struck first in just the fourth minute, after a penalty kick call gave Kelly Isaac the opportunity to take the first penalty kick of the season for the 'Cats, which she promptly struck into the back of the net. Freshman forward Taylor Vick extended the SBU lead to 2-0, after her header got by the keeper, while Isaac picked up an assist.

SBU dictated the tempo for the most part in the first half, outshooting the Lady Blues, 9-2, while gaining a 5-0 edge on corner kicks against Washburn. Things turned south quickly for the Bearcats shortly after halftime, as Washburn's Ashley Taylor scored two goals off of headers, within one minute of each other, and just like that, the game was tied up with 40 minutes still to play.

The score remained deadlocked through the second half and into the overtime periods, and while SBU had six shots in OT, they could not strike one through for the game winner.

"I feel like the way we played in the first half was the best we've played in awhile," said coach Rob Podeyn, commenting on his side's ability to control the ball. "We got out of our game there in the second half, but I'm proud of the way we settled down, and ended up dominating the last of the second half and overtime. We got back to the way we play, despite our injuries. [Goalkeeper] Megan Link played solid today; there wasn't really anything she could have done on those two goals. I feel good moving forward through the rest of our season."

SBU is now 6-6-2 on the season, and 4-6-1 in the MIAA, while Washburn earns its first tie of the season, now at 8-7-1 (5-6-1 MIAA). Next up for the Bearcats, is a home-and-home series with Central Missouri; the game originally scheduled for last Thursday has been moved to Monday, October 26, in Warrensburg. The 'Cats and Jennies then will come to Bolivar on Thursday, October 29. Kickoff on Monday is scheduled for 7 p.m., and for Thursday at 3 p.m.
