ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The SBU Bearcats took things down to the game's final play. On a fourth and goal from the OBU two yard line, Steve Gachette's pass to John Austin was tipped away and the Bearcats were denied a school record five-game winning streak, as they fell to the Ouachita Baptist Tigers 14-10.

"We were going to win it or lose it on the last play," said SBU head coach Keith Allen. "We didn't score enough, and Ouachita kept our offense off the field. The OBU defense was excellent and that's the reason they're nationally-ranked. Not to make excuses or to take away from the phenomenal job by the OBU defense, but we had six offensive starters that had the flu this week. The OBU offense moved the ball but we came up short when it mattered. We just didn't have enough in us to get this done. Bottom line, we were in position to win it on the last play and that's all you can ask for."

Allen added, "We need to learn from our mistakes. Today was a great football game. Our defense was on the field a lot in the first half, but they battled hard and played well. It felt like we were down 21-3 at halftime, when we really were down just 7-3. We just have to work on the little things and keep getting better."

Ouachita Baptist (5-3, 3-3 GSC) broke on top in the first quarter on a 19-yard pass from Eli Cranor to Phillip Supernaw, which capped a 16 play, 80-yard drive. SBU's first score came on a 32-yard field goal from Brock Jolly with 5:02 left in the first quarter. The Tigers would lead at halftime by that 7-3 margin and held the Bearcats to 55 yards of total offense in the first half.

SBU would grab the lead late in the third quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run by Gachette. In the fourth quarter, OBU would use a 12-play, 77-yard drive that covered six minutes to regain the lead, capped by a TD pass from Cranor to Peyton Tolliver from 14 yards out. SBU would get the ball back with five minutes left, and move the ball, mostly via the ground, to the OBU two-yard line. The Bearcats would run the clock down, attempting to leave no time for the Tigers to answer, and would take their final play on fourth and goal from the OBU two-yard line with two seconds remaining. Gachette's pass for Austin was knocked away by Chad Emmons to end the game.

SBU (4-5 overall) managed just 12 first downs as the Tigers controlled the clock and dominated time of possession. SBU was just one of twelve on third down conversions. The Bearcats were held to just 212 yards of total offense. Gachette carried eight times for 72 yards while Semaj Edwards had 14 carries for 58 yards. Gachette was 10 of 25 passing for only 72 yards and had his streak of 16 straight games with a touchdown pass snapped. Charles Johnson had four catches for 41 yards. Jarred Schumpert and Shawn Kilduff had 13 total tackles each, with Schumpert recording 11 solos.

The Bearcats are on the road again next week, looking to get back to .500, when they visit St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. SBU will battle the Pumas in a noon kickoff.
