SBU NOTES I
UCM NOTES
BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats enjoy their first multiple-game home stand in six weeks, when the Jennies of Central Missouri come to Bolivar on Thursday, followed by the Washburn Lady Blues over the weekend. SBU comes off a light week, only playing in one match, a 4-0 win over Missouri Southern. Forward Jaymye Ross became the first Bearcat this season to score more than one goal in a match with three scores against the Lions. The hat trick doubled her goals for the season, and now stands with six. Freshman Taylor Vick scored her second goal, and her first game winner for the Bearcats against the Lions. Vick continues to be one of the team leaders along with Ross in assists, with three. The SBU defense, led by senior Caitlin Tull, and with Megan Link in goal, held MSSU to only two shots on goal in the shutout.
THE COACHES AND THE ALL-TIME SERIES
SBU head coach Robert Podeyn is in his first season on the Bearcat bench. With a career record of 58-55-8, Podeyn came to Bolivar from Northwood University (Texas), where he won two conference championships since 2006. Lewis Theobald has been head coach at Central Missouri for three seasons, where he has led the Jennies to back-to-back MIAA titles in his first two years. Tim Collins is leading the Washburn Lady Blues for his seventh season. Collins, who was named head coach when Washburn began their women's soccer program in 2002, has led Washburn to two NCAA tournament appearances in the last three years. Central Missouri leads the all-time series against SBU, 15-9-1. The SBU-Washburn series has been close as of late, and after the loss to the Lady Blues earlier this season, the series is tied, each team with four wins apiece, and three draws.
SCOUTING THE JENNIES & LADY BLUES
The Jennies are 4-1-1 over their last six games, and are led by senior forward Melanie Hall. Hall ranks second in the MIAA in shots (61), and fourth in points (17), and goals (7).
The Lady Blues of Washburn are looking to extend a two-game winning streak after defeating both Emporia and Northwest Missouri this week. A pair of freshman are the stars of the offense; Leah Talley is the Lady Blues leading goal scorer, with six, while Tia Stovall is ranked second in the conference with eight assists.
