ROLLA, Mo. -- At the inaugural GLVC/MIAA Challenge, the SBU Bearcat men's cross country squad ran without several of their top runners and took sixth. The SBU women finished seventh at the meet held at the Missouri S&T golf course.
Michael McCampbell was the top finisher for the SBU men, taking 15th at 25:20.0 in the 8K meet. Phillip Miller was 23rd at 25:34.2 while Cameron Ayers was right behind in 26th at 25.42.2. Max McClure was 47th at 26:27.0 and David Hackney was 52nd at 26.38.1.
Among the women, Rebecca Brigance ran a 19.56.8 to finish 38th in the 5000 meter event. Five Bearcats finished close together: Chelsea Strahm (20:38.4 - 54th), Kristen Colon (20:41.5 - 55th), Melanie McVay (20:46.3 - 56th), Christine Pierce (20:52.5 - 58th) and Andrea Owensby (21:02.1 - 59th).
SBU now has two weeks to prepare and get healthy for the MIAA Cross Country Championships which will be hosted by Emporia State University on October 24 beginning at 10 a.m.
