KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats were unable to stop their four game slide Saturday, as a trip to Truman State results in a 5-0 loss to the Bulldogs.
The MIAA-leading Bulldogs attacked SBU early, and nine minutes into the game Jaclyn Schumann scored her first goal of the season. Schumann's header off a corner kick put Truman up 1-0, but the Bulldogs were not done challenging the Bearcat defense. In the 20th minute, Isabel Gaeta matched her teammate with her first goal this year as well, and the Bulldogs took a 2-0 advantage.
Truman's Olivia Hayes, the MIAA's leading goal scorer, connected on her ninth goal of the season in the 31st minute on a penalty kick. At the end of the first half, Truman held a 3-0 lead, after outshooting the Bearcats 10-9.
The second half didn't fare much better for SBU, as Gaeta and Hayes each connected on another goal. With the loss, SBU's record falls to 5-6-1 overall, and 3-6 in the MIAA. Truman improves to 8-1 in conference play, and 9-2-2 overall. The Bearcats' road trip finishes up this Thursday, October 15, at Missouri Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
