Bearcat Soccer: Two MIAA Opponents This Week

9/8/2008 6:24:00 PM

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats, who were rained out on the Missouri S&T soccer field last week, will begin the MIAA part of their schedule against Emporia and Southern.

"This week starts conference, and although we did not complete our preseason due to weather, I think we are in an excellent start to begin," said Benjamin Wade, SBU's head coach. "Nothing matters now but each game at a time. We will approach each match individually this week, but of course now every minute counts!"

SBU travels to Emporia State on Thursday for their first MIAA match of the season. The Hornets are 2-1 during the 2008 campaign, with their only loss coming in overtime against Missouri S&T, which was Emporia's home opener. This season, Emporia has beaten Angelo State and East Central State. SBU is 10-3-1 all-time against Emporia, taking both matches last year (2-1 in Emporia, 5-0 in Bolivar).

SBU heads to Joplin on Saturday, to face Missouri Southern. The Lions are 2-1, with also a postponed match against Northeastern State. Both of Southern's wins have been in overtime, and Southern has out-shot opponents 56 to 40 on the season. This series is deadlocked at 9-9-2, with both teams claiming a 1-0 victory on the other's pitch last season.
