BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats take a break from MIAA volleyball action this week, as they travel to Springfield on Tuesday to play the Drury Panthers. The Bearcats trail Druly in the all-time series 10-37, which includes a win and two losses during the 2007 season.
SBU picked up their first MIAA win of the season last Friday, in a 3-1 defeat of Missouri Western. SBU was defeated on Saturday, however, by Northwest Missouri, 3-1. The Bearcats are third in the MIAA in blocks per set, with 2.22.
Head coach, Kelly Richardson, turned her thoughts to Saturday's loss to Northwest.
"We did a good job of coming back in the second set against Northwest, to tie the match," said Richardson. "But we needed to extend that momentum to the third and fourth sets, and we didn't. We have watched films from that match, and we will address the things we pick up as we prepare for our trip to Springfield to play Drury on Tuesday."
Friday's victory against Western was SBU's eighth of the season, matching last season's total for wins. The Bearcats won 10 matches in 2002, which is a recent high. SBU won 12 matches in 1999 and 15 in 1998, and 16 in 1988, which is the most since SBU joined the MIAA.
