BOLIVAR, Mo. – The SBU Bearcats defeated Drury, 96-77, and ran their winning streak at home to 18 games.
SBU put six players in double figures, led by Brandon Burgette's 17 points. Matt Rogers and Wendell Mardis scored 16 each. Rogers also grabbed 9 rebounds and swatted five Drury shots.
"It was a great win in front of a nice crowd," said SBU's head coach, Jeff Guiot, after the game. "We had two great teams tonight, and both teams played hard. We had some good looks early, but our shots weren't falling. But some of our other players picked it up and I thought we did a good job in transition tonight."
SBU had a key stretch in the first half, leading 15-13 with 10 minutes to play. The Bearcats went on a 33-16 run to take a 48-29 lead to the locker room at the half.
The Bearcats hit on only 5 of their 20 three point attempts in the first half, but raised their total average to 32.4% for the game on a 6 of 14 performance in the second half (11 of 34 for the game). SBU shot 51.6% (32 of 62) from the field.
With tonight's win, the Bearcats raised their record to 3-0, and head to Kansas City this week to play Rockhurst (Friday, November 28, 4:00) and Park (Saturday, November 29, 2:00) in the Rockhurst Classic over the Thanksgiving break.
