Football 'Cats Fall To Truman 45-28

11/4/2006 8:48:00 PM

Truman Quarterback Matt Ticich threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for 2 more as Truman defeated the SBU Bearcats 45-28. Ticich, who provided 411 total yards of offense just one week ago, added another 326 yards today - passing for 177 and rushing for 149.

The Bearcats scored a touchdown in each quarter on 328 yards of total offense. John McCoy threw for 2 touchdowns and 130 yards. Robert Clardy added 104 yards in the air. Moine Nicholson rushed 17 times for 68 yards. Nick Smart caught 7 passes for 114 yards. Robert Woodson also caught 7 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

SBU got within 3 of Truman with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter as McCoy connected with Woodson on a 34-yard touchdown pass - making the score 21-24. But from that point, it was all Truman the rest of the way.

Defensively, the Bearcats were led by Jarred Schumpert with 10 tackles (6 solo) and Terry Jones with 9 tackles (7 solo). Tyron Stigers and Klint King each recovered a fumble, and Robert Barrow had an interception.

After the game, Bearcats Head Coach Jack Peavey was "disappointed in the way we tackled, but very pleased with the way Robert (Clardy) and John (McCoy) played."

Next week, on November 11 (Senior Day), it's the battle of the Bearcats as SBU hosts undefeated Northwest Missouri State at 1:30 PM.
