SBU Bearcats Lose Last Game Of Season To NW Missouri State

11/11/2006 6:13:00 PM

BOLIVAR, MO -- The nationally-ranked (#2) Northwest Missouri State Bearcats rolled into town and defeated the SBU Bearcats 55-9 in the last game of SBU's season. Northwest was able to shut down SBU's normally-potent offense, who only managed a single touchdown and a safety.

SBU quarterback Robert Clardy was 11 for 21, throwing for one touchdown, and moved into 8th place, all-time on the MIAA total offensive yards list. John McCoy threw for 75 yards, including a 49-yarder. Nick Smart had 6 catches for 102 yards, including the TD from Clardy. Robert Woodson had 4 catches for 55 yards. Moine Nicholson had 13 carries for 58 yards.

Northwest did nearly all of their scoring in the first half. They were up 35-0 midway through the second quarter and up 42-0 with 2 minutes left in the half. Field position was a huge factor. Five of Northwest's touchdown drives covered only 161 yards combined.

After the game, Head Coach Jack Peavey said he was generally very disappointed in overall execution. He believed his team “was nervous in the beginning, but by the time they settled down the game had gotten away from us.” Peavey added, “I have great respect for the other team and its coach. They are the #2 team in the nation. They are a class act.”

Before the game, 12 seniors were recognized who played their last SBU football game.
