Box Score Miami Shores, FL. – Southwest Baptist University's women's basketball wrapped up their two games at the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic with a win to improve their record to an impressive 6-1. Catapulted by a 23-12 fourth quarter, the Bearcats took down the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish by a final score of 75-67. After the game, Caylee Richardson and Megan Rosenbohm were named to the Cesar Odio All-Tournament Team.
The Sailfish jumped out to a quick lead 15-9 lead to start the first quarter. However, back-to-back Madison Strong and Sydney Bandy layups, two Morgan Henderson free throws, and a Regan Tibbits jumper to close the quarter gave the Bearcats a 2-point advantage. In the second quarter, the Bearcats opened up a five-point lead at the 7:23 mark on a Rosenbohm three. The SBU lead was stretched to eight with 2:04 to go on a converted three-point play from Richardson. Palm Beach Atlantic trimmed the lead to four but Rosenbohm's buzzer beater three to end the half pushed the Bearcat advantage to 32-25 going into halftime.
On a three and jumper from Ray'Shionne Smith, SBU quickly expanded their lead to 37-28 in the first thirty seconds of the third quarter. For the next four minutes of action, the Bearcats could only muster 2 points while the Sailfish scored 12 to jump in front 40-39. Palm Beach Atlantic extended their lead to five points at three different points the rest of the quarter. The Bearcats got a great response from Laura Vierkant to end the quarter. Vierkant sank a layup and free throw to trim the deficit to just two. SBU carried the momentum provided by Vierkant into the fourth as they went on top 56-54 on six points from Richardson. With 6:06 remaining in the game, the game was knotted at 58 until Rosenbohm took over the game with 10 consecutive points to extend the Bearcat lead to double digits. The closest Palm Beach Atlantic would get the rest of the way was within five points but four late free throws from Richardson and Smith iced the game to give SBU the 75-67 victory.
Megan Rosenbohm and Caylee Richardson were outstanding once again. Rosenbohm had a game high 26 points while shooting 50% overall and 62.5% from beyond the arc. She added 3 assists and 3 steals as well. Richardson posted another double double with 19 points and 14 rebounds on 53.4% shooting from the floor. For the night, the Bearcats shot 40.3% from the field, 33.3% from deep, 82.6% at the line, and topped the Sailfish on the boards 40 to 38.
The women's team will have a week off before they return to action next. They travel to Claremore, Oklahoma to take on Rogers State Saturday, December 2
