Bolivar, Mo. - Megan Link, a four-year starter in goal for the Southwest Baptist University Women's Soccer Team, has signed a professional contract to play for Afturelding FC of Iceland.  Afturelding FC plays in the Women's Icelandic Premier League in Iceland and also competes in the European Women's Champions League, a participant in this prestigious tournament the last three years.  Last year the team finished in fifth place in league play and qualified for the European Women's Champions League for a third straight year.

“Megan has been an integral part of our team the last four years.  She has either set every career record or placed in the top five in every category while also being recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the MIAA.  She served as team captain the last three years and has established herself as an elite player at the college level,” said Coach Podeyn.  Megan had received a trial earlier this year with the Under 23 Women's National Team and is being observed in her development by US Soccer as she begins her professional career.  “I really want to improve and play at an even higher level.  My dream is to one day play for our Women's National Team and after speaking with the coaches from the National Team I feel this puts me in a position to someday do that.  This is an exciting opportunity and feel very blessed that I get to live my dream as a professional player,” said Megan Link. 

Afturelding FC is traditionally one of the top teams in the Iceland Professional League, a league considered to be one of the top professional women's leagues in the world.  It is located in the town of Mosfellsbaer just north of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.  “We are very proud of Megan and look forward to her continuing her success at the next level,” said Coach Podeyn.
