DUNCAN, Okla. -- While other scores were drifting higher, SBU senior golfer Brad Nipper stayed consistent and moved from 13th place into a tie for first, atop the NCAA D-II Men's South Central/Midwest Region leaderboard. On Tuesday, Nipper followed his first day 71 with a second round score of 74. Nipper stands tied at one over par (145) with Nick Gunthorpe of Grand Valley State.
Wayne State continues to lead the team standings at 594 for the two days. Central Missouri and Cameron University are tied for second at 600. The first round individual leader, Aaron Peterson, dropped from a 66 on day one to an 81 on day two. Robbe Trout of Cameron had the best score on day two with a 71.
This is Nipper's third appearance in the NCAA regionals after also playing with SBU squads that qualified as teams in 2008 and 2007. Nipper, a native of Willard, Mo., qualified as an individual following his senior season that saw him earn All-MIAA for the second straight year. Dustin Yeager of Washburn was the only other golfer from the MIAA to qualify as an individual. Central Missouri was the lone MIAA team to qualify.
The Super Regional is being held at The Territory Golf Club. There are two super regions being contested at the event which is hosted by Cameron University. The five best team scores along with the two best individual scores not on the top teams advance in the NCAA Tournament. The D-II Men's Golf Championships will be held May 17-May 21 at the Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.
Nipper tees off at 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday in the event's third and final round, in a pairing with Gunthorpe and Andrew Green of Central Oklahoma. Green is tied for fourth at three over par 147.
