JOPLIN, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcat golfers concluded the regular season portion of their spring schedule, taking fourth at the Missouri Southern Spring Invitational at Twin Hills Country Club. SBU had rounds of 305 and 309 for a 614 (+38), taking fourth behind Central Missouri, Northeastern State and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Senior Justin Sellin had the best finish among SBU golfers, tying for fifth with a 149 (73-76), five over par. Brad Nipper tied for ninth with an 8 over 152 (76-76) while Bryan Steele tied for 19th at 154 (77-77, +10). Josh Bronn tied for 39th at 15 over 159 (79-80). Matt Buschman was 55th at 20 over par 164 (81-83).
Central Missouri won the event at 604, 28 over par. Northeastern State was a stroke back at 605 followed by Southwestern Oklahoma at 606. Ben Claussen of SWOSU was the medalist at 145 (75-70), just one over par.
The MIAA Golf Championships will be held next week (April 19-20) in Kansas City at Tiffany Springs Golf Club. The NCAA Super Regional will be held on May 3-5 at The Territory Golf Course in Duncan, Oklahoma.
The MSSU Spring Invitational was the third MIAA points event of the year with next week's MIAA Tournament that counts for double points. Central Missouri has won all three events and SBU currently stands fourth. Below are the updated MIAA golf standings.
