BOYS TOWN, Neb. --
Fresh off their Tuesday upset of #2 and MIAA-leading Central Missouri, the SBU baseball Bearcats made the trip to Omaha a day earlier than anticipated to take on the #26 UNO Mavericks. The Bearcats fell to the MIAA's third-best team, 10-8, in Thursday's opener of the four-game series.

Steven Davis led the Bearcats offensively, driving in two on two hits. Paden Grubbs continued to swing the bat well, going 2-for-4. Seth Tucker pitched three innings of scoreless relief while allowing just two hits.

UNO (17-8, 13-4 MIAA) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, before SBU tied it with five runs in the fourth, with all five runs coming with two outs. Nigel Morton singled to score Justin Crumpley. Justin Barnhart followed up with an RBI single that scored Kyle Tormanen. Niko Saladis gave the 'Cats their third straight RBI single, which scored Morton. After Grubbs walked, Davis singled to left center which plated Saladis and Barnhart.

UNO tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth. SBU had another two-out rally in the sixth. Davis and Grubbs scored when Kyle Wise's hit to left was muffed by the left fielder. Wise later scored on a single by Crumpley.

Tyler Splichal had three hits and two RBI for Nebraska-Omaha, while Tyler Lundy drove in three on two base hits.

The Bearcats (6-24, 5-18 MIAA) and Mavericks are scheduled for a doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m., weather permitting. A single game Saturday is set for a noon start time.
