KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One hundred twenty-three Southwest Baptist University student-athletes earned academic recognition from the MIAA when the 2009-10 awards were announced recently. Eight of those achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs and a spot on the Academic Excellence list. Eight individuals also received MIAA Scholar Athlete recognition, having a 3.5 cumulative GPA and being named All-MIAA in their sport. All 123 student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
BOLIVAR, Mo. -- SBU senior third baseman Justin Barnhart has been named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Baseball First Team for the second straight season.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU infielder Nigel Morton was named to the All-MIAA Baseball First Team, while outfielder Paden Grubbs picked All-MIAA Second Team honors and third baseman Justin Barnhart earned Honorable Mention when the awards were announced Wednesday by the league office.
JOPLIN, Mo. -- Nine runs weren't enough to complete the comeback, as the SBU Bearcats fell to the Lions of Missouri Southern, 11-9. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Lions would answer in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own. The Bearcats would put up three more runs in the third, tallying three hits and taking advantage of a Southern error.
