SBU's Krysta Baderdeen shares MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU's Krysta Baderdeen was one of three players to earn MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week honors, for the week ending March 7. The Bearcat junior third baseman shared the award with third baseman Krista Cummings of Central Missouri and catcher Amanda Self of Emporia State. Pitcher Karley Schmelzer of Emporia State was named MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Baderdeen, a native of Marshfield, Mo., hit .538 with nine RBIs, three home runs and six runs scored during six games in the week. The junior from Marshfield, Mo., tied SBU records with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs in the Bearcats’ 14-4-rout of East Central Saturday. She leads the team with four home runs and 14 RBIs and also with 29 total bases and a .744 slugging percentage. Baderdeen currently has four-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 11 of 14 games.
The Bearcats will host a pair of doubleheaders this week. Wednesday, the Bearcats (6-8) will host Arkansas Tech. The start time against the Golden Suns was moved up a half hour to 1:30 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field. Thursday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m., SBU will welcome the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons.
