SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The SBU Bearcat golf team got a trip to San Diego, Calif., for their spring break. But the results from the Mission Viejo Country Club weren't what they wanted, as SBU finished ninth at the 60th annual University of California-San Diego SoCal Intercollegiate. Brad Nipper tied for tenth while Bryan Steele tied for 20th as the top Bearcat finishers.
Nipper shot a three round 233 (76-77-80, +20) and tied with three other golfers for tenth. Bryan Steele shot a 239 (78-79-82, +26) and tied for 20th. Justin Sellin had a 243 (81-82-80) for a tie at 28th, while Matt Buschman tied for 36th at 247 (86-78-83).
Sonoma State won the event with a three round score of 919 (301-306-312). St. Edwards took second and CSU-San Bernardino was third. The Bearcats finished ninth at 962 (321-316-325) out of 11 teams. St. Edwards' Collin Mayer took home medalist honors at 220 (71-73-76), winning by two strokes over CSU-Dominguez Hills' Ryan IndoVina.
The Bearcats head south next week, as they travel to Dallas, Texas, for the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas. The event will be held next Monday and Tuesday, March 29 and 30.
