KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU's senior center Matt Rogers was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-District Second Team.

Rogers, a Doniphan, Mo., native, ranked among national and MIAA leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocks before suffering a season-ending injury in late January. He recorded a career best 36 points and 20 rebounds against Nebraska-Omaha. Rogers won three MIAA Player of the Week awards this season and nine for his SBU career and was also named to his third straight All-MIAA First Team and fourth straight MIAA All-Defensive Team.

Rogers ranked fourth in the nation in blocks (3.6 per game), as well as 15th in all of Division II in points. His totals would put him near the top of the MIAA in points, rebounds (8.8), field goal percentage (52%), blocks and defensive rebounds (7.3).
He also ranks among the all-time SBU leaders in points, rebounds, field goals, free throws, and blocks. Last season Rogers picked up four All-American awards, including the State Farm NABC honor.

Selected to the South Central District First Team were Dauntae Williams of Central Oklahoma, Craig Green of Midwestern State, Sanijay Watts and Alex Moosman of Central Missouri, LaMarshall Corbett of Angelo State and Jason Jones of Northeastern State. Joining Rogers on the second team were Dominique Gaines of Northeastern State, Dominique Jones of Fort Hays State, Tyler Bullock of Nebraska-Omaha and Jason Ebie of Midwestern State. Grant McCasland of Midwestern State was selected South Central Coach of the Year, after leading his Mustang team to an Elite Eight berth.

Selected on voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 88 student-athletes, from eight districts, are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division II All-America team, selected by the NABC.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest “Phog” Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.org.
