JOPLIN, Mo. -- At the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday, the SBU women's cross country team finished ninth out of 36 teams while the SBU men were 15th out of 34 teams.
Crissie Owensby was the top SBU female finisher, coming in at 42nd (18:48.83) on the 5k course.
Phillip Miller paced the Bearcat men, finishing at 25:46.80, good for 40th.
Following Owensby on the women's side were
Ashley Wolkomir in 45th (18:50.98),
Mandy Brady in 51st (18:55.94),
Melanie McVay in 56th (19:00.61) and
Melody Elswick in 64th (19:12.49). Division I University of Tulsa won the event, with the top five overall individual finishers.
In the men's 8k race, SBU was led by Miller in 40th, followed by
Josh Inman in 79th (26:36.80),
Max McClure in 100th (26:52.40),
Derek Lee at 109th (27:01.20) and
Caleb Loya at 117th (27:13.40). Wayland Baptist's Kennedy Kithuka won the event and led his squad to the team title.
The Bearcat squads will be in Stillwater, Okla., next Saturday, September 25, for the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.
