Cross country women take third at UCM Mule Run, SBU men sixth

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- At the University of Central Missouri Mule Run, the SBU women's cross country placed third while the SBU men finished sixth. A pair of freshmen led the way with Ashley Wolkomir earning the best SBU finish with a 4K time of 16:34.83 - 13th, while Derek Lee was the top SBU male finisher at 27th (22:33.14) on the 6K course.

The SBU women took third behind Dallas Baptist and UCM with nine teams competing. Following Wolkomir for SBU were Mandy Brady in 18th (16:41), Holly Hackney in 21st (16:45.30), Rebecca Brigance in 26th (16:56.75), and Melody Elswick in 30th (17:02.55). Whitney Coats was 32nd (17:07.20) and Camrie Nixon was 37th (17:15.78).

Dallas Baptist won the women's title behind a 1-2 finish of Tabbitha Ashford and Rachel Phillips.

On the men's side, SBU's Justin Baker was just behind Lee, with Baker finishing 29th at 22:35.20. Caleb Loya was 31st (22:37.97), Tyler King was 35th (22:47.47), Josh Rollins was 40th (22:58.98), Nathaniel Rogers was 47th (23:22.40) and Andrew Martinez was right behind in 48th (23:23.27). Trevor Jarvis was 51st at 23:31.14.

Amos Sang won the men's event at 20:09.74, helping Abilene Christian to the team title over Central Missouri.

The Bearcat teams will run next Saturday (September 18) at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin.
