Originally from Harrison, Ark. ... Was instrumental in the development of SBU Athletics for the more than 25 years he served as director of athletics … Led the growth of Bearcat athletics from junior college through NAIA and into NCAA Division II … Served in the Air Force from 1953 through 1957 … Earned his Doctorate of Education from Arkansas in 1969 … Came to SBU in 1965 and was baseball head coach for the Bearcats from 1970-75 … Served as AD from 1965 through 1988 and was also interim AD in 1995-96 … In 1971 and 1972, was named an Outstanding Educator of America … Became a deacon at First Baptist Church in Bolivar in 1973 … Served as chairman of the SBU health and physical education departments and helped develop graduate courses for that department ... Each year the Rex Brown Award is presented to one male and one female SBU senior as the outstanding senior student-athletes based on criteria including academics, character and athletic achievements ... Rex and his wife Ann have one son Scott.

Rex Brown passed away on December 14th, 2024.
