The couple were later married in 1973 ... Bill graduated from Bolivar High School in 1967 and went to Draughon’s Business College in Springfield ... Later worked for a garment factory and Walmart ... Started his career as sportswriter at the Bolivar Herald-Free Press around 1977, where he worked until his retirement in 2014 ... Besides Towns, Bill names SBU Hall of Famers Glenn Stanley, Wade Hopkins, Nick Smart, and Lester Baker as some of the best to ever wear an SBU uniform ... A top memory was following men’s basketball to Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass. in 1991 ... Before websites and social media became the norm, coverage from Bill and the Bolivar Herald-Free Press were main source of SBU sports news for many local fans ... Was honored in 2017 with the Bearcat Service Award for his nearly 30 years of coverage and promotion of SBU Athletics with the Bolivar newspaper ... Bill and Pearlene remain active members of the Sixth Man Club ... They have two children, Reggie and Cherita, along with four grandsons.
