Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Southwest Baptist University men's tennis team picked up both the singles and doubles championship at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Monday.
Sherif Abohabaga earned the singles championship, while the doubles team of
Gyorgy Agoston and Ferenc Agoston picked up the doubles championship.
Abohabaga picked up a pair of singles victories on Monday en route to the championship, while in doulbes play Abohabaga and partner
Chris Blodig defeated #4 seed Nguyen/Richards of Nebraska-Kearney to advance to the finals. Playing opposite of Abohabaga/Blodig were teammates Agoston/Agoston after the brothers defeated Northwest Missouri's Serrano/Tete in the semi-finals. Agoston/Agoston then earned the 8-3 victory over Abohabaga/Blodig as the Bearcats picked up both the singles and doubles championships.
Sherif Abohabaga and
Gyorgy Agoston/Ferenc Agoston now advance to the ITA Oracle Cup (formerly National Small College Championships). The four-day tournament will run from October 13 through October 16 from Surprise, Arizona.
