Fairbanks, Alaska - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team came away from Alaska this weekend as co-tournament champions at the Alaska Invitational Tournament.  Ryan Dougherty and Preston Guiot were both named to the all-tournament team for the Bearcats, with Dougherty averaging 18 points per game and Guiot averaging 15 points per game, during the tournament.  The Bearcats had a hard fought battle against Tiffin University on Saturday night, but came up short in the contest 76-68. SBU kept the game close throughout the entire competition, but were unable to pull off their fifth victory in seven days.

Abner Kamps led the Bearcats scoring efforts with 20 points off of 8 of 11 shooting from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds in tonight's game. Kamps led the Bearcats in both scoring and rebounding, and produced his second double-double of the season. Ryan Dougherty added 14 points and 4 assists on the evening, Kyle Sloan had 11 points, and Preston Guiot 8 for SBU.

As a team the Bearcats shot 41% from the field, and 18% from beyond the arc. The Bearcats did a good job protecting the ball, committing only 9 turnovers, while shooting a higher percentage from the free throw line than Tiffin.

"This was a great experience for our kids," head coach Jeff Guiot stated. "It's a nice accomplishment for us. I'm proud of our team. They came here and competed hard. We are happy we came - but looking forward to getting back to some warmer weather."

The Bearcats will be back in action the day after Thanksgiving when SBU hosts the SBU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, November 25th and Saturday, November 26th. The Bearcats will host Evangel University on Friday with a tip-off time set for 7:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
