Tulsa, Okla. - The SBU Bearcats opened up their 2011-12 season last night against Division I opponent, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, in an opening exhibition game. The Bearcats battled hard against the Golden Hurricane, but came up short in the contest, losing 92-73. Rob Memnon was the leading scorer for the Bearcats with 21 points.
The Bearcats had four players in double-digit points, with Memnon leading the way with 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field.
Kyle Sloan and
Abner Kamps both added 11 points, while Connor Washington scored 10.
Preston Guiot lead the Bearcats with 6 assists, and Memnon lead SBU with 5 rebounds. As a team, the Bearcats collected 19 assists, compared to 13 for the Golden Hurricane, seven steals, and shot 46.6% from the field.
SBU will open up their regular season on Monday, November 14 when SBU hosts Drury University at the Meyer Sports Center. The game is set to tip off at 7:30, following the women's game at 5:30.
