RENO, Nev. -- Future SBU Bearcat Britni Reed helped her club team to a national runner-up finish at the prestigious 2010 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships in Nevada.

Reed, a 5-10 outside hitter from Grimes, Iowa, played for IPVA (Iowa Power Volleyball Academy) Black, which finished 8-3. IPVA Black took second out of 48 teams in the 18-and under American division in late June and early July under coach Arlie Brandmeyer.

"My favorite part was making it to the championship court and placing second place at nationals," Reed said. "That is such a great honor and we played so well to get there. I was happy I was able to play with the girls for the last time."

A pre-tournament family tragedy kept one of the team's top setters away, and Reed said the team thought the adjustment to a different system was going to be difficult. "All year we were running a 6-2, and we changed to a 5-1 and didn't have very many problems at all."

Reed will be a freshman this season for coach Kelly Richardson and the Bearcats, who open their season on September 3-4 in Lakeland, Florida at the Florida Southern Classic. SBU will take on Montevallo at 2 p.m. on Friday followed by the host school Florida Southern at 7 p.m.
