BOLIVAR, MO -- SBU senior runner Michael McCampbell has been named to the CoSIDA
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team. This is the second straight season that he's earned the honor, after picking up first team all-district and later third team Academic All-American honors in 2009.
McCampbell, a native of Marshall, Mo., carries a 3.91 GPA in biology. In November at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Ind., he finished 128th with a 10K time of 34:20.9. He helped SBU qualify as team for the national meet for the first time in school history. The Bearcats finished 15th out of 24 teams at the national event. He also competes for the Bearcats during the indoor and outdoor track field seasons in various distance events including the 10,000 meters (for which he holds the school record) and the 3000 meter steeplechase.
McCampbell earned the new NCAA Elite 88 award, for the highest GPA of competing athletes at the cross country national meet. He was also recognized in the spring by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) when he was named to the organization's All-Academic Team for cross country, also for the second straight season. He is a two-time member of the MIAA Presidential Scholar's List and MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs).
Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
