PITTSBURG, Kan. -- At the 2010 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the SBU Bearcat squads were paced by their sprinters and distance runners. Frank Grant, Jr. picked up wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes while the women's 4x100 meter relay team and Jeremy Glassmaker in the 800 meters also scored wins.
Grant raced to victory in both of the 100 meter (10.51) and 200 meter (21.40) races. Both times were NCAA provisional marks but Grant had achieved faster times in both earlier in the season. Grant was also part of the 4x400 and 4x100 meter relay squads, that took fourth (3:22.83) and seventh (43.14) respectively. J.T. Goins was part of both relay squads and also took eighth in the 400 meter hurdles.
Glassmaker took the 800 meter race at 1:54.45 and finished third in the 1500 meters (3:50.90 - NCAA provisional). Freshman Phillip Miller scored a provisional in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a fourth place finish (9:20.49) and also took seventh in the 5000 meters (15:02.93). Michael McCampell also placed ninth in the 5K and was sixth in the 10K (31:38.25). Chance Byrd placed tenth in the decathlon with 5170 points.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Jasmine Sanford, Corie Chuning, Tyrahnique Thomas and Jenny Blair bettered their NCAA provisional time, running 46.85 to win. Blair ran third in the 400 meters (58.25) and fourth in the 200 meters (25.25). Blair was also on the 4x400 that was ninth. Sanford took second in the 100 meter dash (12.27) and sixth in the 200 meter dash (26.12).
Chelsea Strahm placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:31.63). Rebecca Brigance took ninth in the 10K run (39:25.36).
Grant and Glassmaker earned All-MIAA honors with their wins as did the women's 4x100 relay team. Sanford was the top freshman high point scorer among MIAA women.
The SBU men took sixth in the team standings with 54 points while the women were ninth with 37 points. Central Missouri won the men's team title with 190 points while the women's team champ was Missouri Southern with 151 points.
Selected SBU track athletes will compete next Saturday at the Emporia State Twilight event, looking to better their qualifying times or achieve NCAA marks. The NCAA D-II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held on May 27-29 in Charlotte, N.C.
