DUNCAN, Okla. -- At the NCAA D-II South Central/Midwest Super Regional, a loss on the second hole of a sudden death playoff kept SBU senior golfer Brad Nipper from advancing to the NCAA national championships. After entering the final round tied for first, Nipper shot a third round 77 and finished at six over par (222) and tied for fourth place at the event, which was held at The Territory Golf Club and was hosted by Cameron University.
Nipper lost on the second hole in a sudden death playoff to Seth Fair of the University of Indianapolis. Nipper and Fair finished the 54 holes of regulation at six over par and were tied for fourth with Eric Lilleboe of Ferris State, but Lilleboe qualified with his team. The top five team scores advanced to nationals as well as the top two individuals not on those top five teams. Central Missouri placed first in the team standings at +40, followed by Wayne State, Ferris State, Bellarmine and Cameron. Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian took the first individual spot at nationals with a four over par 220. Justin Yoder of Central was the overall top individual finisher with a three over par 219.
"I'm really proud of Brad," said SBU head golf coach Kevin Cribbs. "To take fourth place at NCAA regionals is nothing to be disappointed about. He had a great season to wrap up his solid college career."
This was Nipper's third appearance and first as an individual qualifier at the NCAA regionals, after playing on SBU squads that qualified in 2007 and 2008. Nipper, a native of Willard, Mo., also earned All-MIAA honors each of the last two seasons.
