Bearcat women finish second nationally in threes made per game

INDIANAPOLIS -- The SBU Bearcat women's basketball team finished the 2009-10 season second in the nation in Division II in three-pointers made per game. SBU finished with 273 treys made in 28 games, an average of 9.8 per game. Glenville State was first with 14.1 per game (394 in 28 games). D-II national champion and fellow MIAA member Emporia State was third at 9.0 per game (289 in 32 games).

Individually, the Bearcats had two players in the top 40 in shots made from outside. Senior Rachel Graves was 33rd while junior Courtney Heady was 40th. Both players averaged 2.6 treys per game, but Graves made one more trey (73 to 72) to finish slightly ahead. Junior guard Ashleigh Gallio was also ranked at 151st with 1.8 threes per game.

The Bearcats closed the season with a remarkable run.. After starting the conference schedule at 1-10, SBU won seven of their last nine regular season games to qualify for the MIAA Tournament before falling to top-seeded Washburn in Kansas City.
