OMAHA, Neb. --
The SBU softball team traveled to the MIAA's hottest team Friday afternoon and were shut out, falling to the red-hot Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, 1-0 and 3-0.

In game one, Josie Rose was out-dueled by UNO's Beth Haley, as both pitchers went the distance. Rose struck out four in six innings while allowing four hits and a single run in the fifth inning. Haley threw seven innings and struck out three while allowing three hits (Krysta Baderdeen, Nina Amaro-Garcia, and Sarah Brison).

Game two was controlled by UNO's Lindsey Slocum, the reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Week. Slocum allowed just three hits and struck out eight. SBU's Karly Bitters pitched well, but took the tough loss after six innings and just three runs allowed. BreAnn Proctor had two hits while Brison picked the other hit.

With the sweep, the Mavericks (42-9, 15-2 MIAA) have now won 22 straight games, but still sit in second place in the MIAA standings behind Emporia State.

SBU (21-30, 4-12 MIAA) continues the final stretch of MIAA games Saturday at Northwest Missouri. The doubleheader begins at noon from Maryville. SBU still has an outside shot at the conference tournament, but needs several wins in their final four games and losses by teams above them in the standings to secure a berth.
