Cook and Schmidt headline SBU women's tennis players earning All-MIAA honors
Schmidt wins Freshman of the Year while Cook takes Sportsmanship Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU's Faiga Schmidt was named MIAA Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year while senior Jolee Cook earned the MIAA Sportsmanship Award when honors were announced Thursday by the league office. The selections were made by the league's eight head coaches, and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Schmidt, a native of Nova Hamburgo, Brazil, was the 2010 MIAA Freshman of the Year after going 5-2 at No. 3 singles and 4-2 at No. 1 doubles in conference action. She also picked up All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors at both No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Cook was honored with the Sportsmanship Award. The Rowlett, Texas, product also earned All-MIAA Second Team honors at No. 1 singles and All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 1 doubles.
Also earning All-MIAA Second Team honors for the Bearcats were senior Johanna Olsson at No. 2 singles and junior Jenna Hendrickson at No. 4 singles. Earning All-MIAA Honorable Mention were Olsson at No. 2 doubles and Hendrickson at No. 3 doubles, along with Sarah Sentlinger (5S/2D), Misti Janisch (3D) and Crystal Guiot (3D).
Washburn senior Trang Le Nguyen was named MIAA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after going a perfect 7-0 at No. 1 singles and 6-1 at No. 1 doubles during conference play. Washburn head coach Dave Alden was voted 2010 MIAA Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Blues to a 6-1 conference record during the regular season and the MIAA Tournament Championship.
