KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU's Domingos Carissimo was named 2010 MIAA Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year, and he and teammate Marton Zsiga earned First Team All-MIAA in singles play, when the awards were announced Thursday by the league office. The selections were made by the league's six head coaches, and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Carissimo, a native of Ponte Nova, Brazil, went 14-3 at No. 2 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, including 5-0 and 4-1, respectfully, in conference play. Carissimo earned All-MIAA First Team honors at No. 2 singles and All-MIAA Second Team at No. 1 doubles. Carissimo was a unanimous selection on the All-MIAA First Team.

Zsiga, a senior from Szeged, Hungary, shared All-MIAA First Team honors with Malcom Harrison of Northwest Missouri and Branden Joost of Washburn. Zsiga was a repeat selection on the top team from a season ago. Zsiga and Carissimo earned All-MIAA Second Team at No. 1 doubles.

SBU sophomore Jorge Margiotta earned All-MIAA Second Team honors at No. 3 singles and Honorable Mention at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Brandon Finerty picked All-MIAA Second Team at No. 5 singles and Honorable Mention (with Margiotta) at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Jorge Palacios earned All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 4 singles. Tyler Welch earned All-MIAA Second Team at No. 6 singles.

NWMSU's Malcolm Harrison was the 2010 MIAA Player of the Year after a season in which he went 21-3 at No. 1 singles and 18-7 at No. 1 doubles. Northwest Missouri head coach Mark Rosewell was selected as the MIAA Coach of the Year for the seventh time in men's tennis after guiding the Bearcats to a 4-1 league record (21-4 overall), a share of the regular season conference title and the MIAA tournament championship. Emporia State senior Kevin Schoon was voted as the Sportsmanship Award winner for the second year in a row.

SBU shared the MIAA regular season title with Northwest Missouri and Washburn. Northwest Missouri claimed the MIAA Tournament Championship with a win over Washburn. The green Bearcats and Ichabods earned bids to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
