Men's tennis falls to Washburn in MIAA Tournament semifinals
SBU men will wait until Wednesday to learn their NCAA fate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In the semifinals of the MIAA Men's Tennis Championship Tournament, the second-seeded SBU Bearcats were beaten by the third-seeded Washburn Ichabods 5-2. After the Ichabods swept all three doubles matches, SBU got wins at the top two slots from Marton Zsiga and Domingos Carissimo. The match was stopped once Washburn picked up their second singles win and fifth point.
After dropping a close first set in a tiebreaker, Zsiga rallied for a three-set victory over Brandon Joost. Carissimo won his singles match at #2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ryan Ward. Washburn earned straight set wins at #3 and #5 singles to close out the match.
SBU, Washburn and Northwest Missouri tied for the regular season crown with 4-1 records. Northwest Missouri picked up the number one seed in a drawing Thursday. NWMSU and Washburn played for the tournament title on Sunday afternoon.
The SBU Bearcats will wait until this Wednesday, April 28 to learn whether or not they receive an NCAA Tournament berth.
