JOPLIN, Mo. -- SBU track and field competed Friday at the Missouri Southern Bill Williams / Bob Laptad Invitational and once again it was the Bearcat sprinters and distance runners that led the way. Jeremy Glassmaker won the 800 meter run, Jenny Blair took the 400 meter dash while Chelsea Strahm won the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Corie Chuning and Jasmine Sanford went two-three in the women's 100 meter dash, at 12.10 and 12.22, finishing behind D-I Gwendolyn Flowers of Arkansas. Tyrahnique Thomas also placed fifth in the 100m at 12.52. Sanford also ran fifth in the 200 meters (25.99) and was fifth in the long jump (5.30m). Chuning and Thomas were also part of the 4x400m relay team with Katie Dusenberg and Kassidy Porter that took second (4:00.52). Porter placed fifth in the 800 meter race (2:22.27).
Blair took the 400 meters with a time of 57.88. Crissie Owensby was fourth in the 1500 meter run at 4:53.87. Rebecca Brigance placed second in the 5000 meters (PR 18:59.01) while Monica Smith was seventh.
Glassmaker won the 800 meters with a personal best 1:54.19. Jesse Kueker placed seventh in the 400 meters at 50.82, which was a new mark for Kueker. In the men's 5000 meters, Will Hansen was third (PR 15:29.67), Lance Knight was fourth (15:34.06) and Caleb Loya was seventh (15:58.90).
J.T. Goins ran fourth in the 400m hurdles (56.12). Goins, Glassmaker, Kueker and Stephan Albin led the 4x400 meter relay to a win at 3:22.26. Albin was also seventh in the long jump (6.58m).
Selected Bearcat runners will compete next Saturday at the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville.
