Gorilla Classic Results | McDonnell Invitational Results
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- SBU senior sprinter Frank Grant, Jr., put on a show Saturday at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic, running the second fastest time in the nation in Division II in the 100 meters and also winning the 200 meters with an NCAA provisional time. Grant was not the only Bearcat runner who enjoyed success at the meet, with Corie Chuning, Jasmine Sanford, Phillip Miller, Chelsea Strahm and several others that had solid performances.
Also Saturday, Bearcat distance runner Jeremy Glassmaker won the open 1500 meter race at the University of Arkansas John McDonnell Invitational. Glassmaker's time of 3:58.25 topped those of 13 other Division I or unattached runners.
Grant set the tone with an NCAA provisional mark of 10.54 in the 100 meter prelims, and bettered that with a 10.41 in the finals. He also scored a provisional qualifying mark in the 200 meters, with a 21.26. That mark was a half second ahead of Coffeyville's Terrell McNeil, one of the nation's top junior college sprinters. Grant's 200m time stands seventh in Division II.
The SBU women's sprinters also excelled at Pitt State, with Chuning taking the 100 meters (12.16) and Sanford placing sixth (12.58). Chuning and Sanford were also members of the 4x100 meter relay team (with Jenny Blair and Tyrahnique Thomas) that earned an NCAA provisional with a time of 47.30, nearly a second ahead of second place Central Missouri. The SBU 4x100m team stands 15th best in D-II. Sanford also took third in the 200 meters at 26.15.
