EDINBORO, Pa. -- SBU senior center Matt Rogers repeated as a Daktronics All-American, earning third team honors in 2010 after averaging 21.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks. Rogers is one of four players to repeat -- LeMoyne's Laurence Ekperigin, Merrimack's Darren Duncan and Augusta State's Ben Madgen were the others.
Rogers, a 6-11 Doniphan, Mo., native, was a second team Daktronics All-American a year ago. He repeated as the honor despite playing in just 20 games after going down with a season-ending injury in late January. He ranked among the Division II leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots prior to that. He earned first team All-MIAA honors for the third straight year and also was named to the MIAA All-Defensive Team for the fourth straight season. SBU finished the year at 20-11, but was 16-4 before Rogers went down. Rogers also ranks among the all-time SBU leaders in points, rebounds, field goals, free throws, and blocks.
Kutztown University senior Stephen Dennis was named the 2010 Daktronics Division II Men's Basketball Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. Dennis, a 6'6”, 185 lb. guard, is the top scorer in Division II at 26.6 ppg., adding 5.8 rpg., 4.5 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game and was the Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
Joining Dennis on the first team were Sanijay Watts of Central Missouri, Laurence Ekperigin of LeMoyne, Jason Westrol of Bentley, and Darren Duncan of Merrimack. The second team was heavy on guards with Jamar Smith of Southern Indiana, Kyle Moore of Tusculum, LaMarshall Corbett of Angelo State and Mike Dominguez of Mesa State. Gage Daye of Bloomfield was the only forward listed on the squad.
Along with Rogers on the third team were Augusta's Ben Madgen and Roman Andrade of New Mexico-Highlands (both guards), forward Tyrone Curnell of Valdosta State and center Matt Schenck of St. Cloud State.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
