SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- After a day one first place finish, the SBU golf team was edged by Fort Hays State for the top spot on the second day at the Pasta House Drury Spring Invitational. The Bearcats had a 303 team score after the first day, and slipped slightly to 307 on the second day, while the Tigers rallied with a 297 second day effort. SBU's Justin Sellin tied for the second-best individual score with a 148 (75-73).
In the event at Rivercut Golf Course, Brad Nipper finished sixth, just one stroke back at 149 (72-77). Bryan Steele was ninth at 152 (75-77) while Matt Buschman tied for 22nd at 161 (81-80). Josh Bronn scored a 165 (89-76) Chad McCoy finished at 179 (87-92).
Fort Hays took the top spot with a two-day team score of 609, with SBU just one stroke back at 610. Drury took third at 615, with Pittsburg State, Missouri-St. Louis, Missouri Western and Drury B rounding out the team finishes. Drury's Andrew Funk took home medalist honors with a 147 (75-72).
The Bearcats continue their spring season in Southern California next week, with a trip to UC-San Diego's SoCal Intercollegiate. Next Monday and Tuesday's event will be played at the Mission Viejo Country Club in San Diego.
