ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Southwest Baptist University senior sprinter Frank Grant, Jr. is set to run in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. This weekend's event will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center and is hosted by Adams State College, Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and New Mexico Sports Authority. Grant will run in the 200 meters and has the fourth-best seeded time of 21.40 seconds.
Grant, a native of Riveria Beach, Fla., will compete Friday at approximately 7:05 p.m. (Mountain Time) against eleven other sprinters. Also competing in the 200 meters with Grant, are fellow MIAA runners Josh Schuler of Emporia State and Jordan Patton of Missouri Southern.
SBU head coach Corey McElhaney commented on Grant's big day. "I am very proud of Frank and his success," said McElhaney. "He has worked so hard to reach this accomplishment and is excited to have this opportunity. Coach Ray (Adkison) also deserves a lot of credit in preparing him and mentoring him this season. I know that Frank will represent SBU well."
Despite the SBU indoor track team earning a school-best eight NCAA provisional qualifying marks, Grant was the only one to qualify. His automatic time of 21.40 was set at the MIAA Championships in Joplin in late February. While at SBU, Grant played football while also competing in indoor and outdoor track.
