STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- SBU senior center Matt Rogers was named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region First Team, earning the honor for the second straight season. Rogers was joined on the first team by Central Missouri teammates Sanijay Watts and Alex Moosman, Angelo State's LaMarshall Corbett and Central Oklahoma's Daunte Williams. Watts was also named the South Central Region's Player of the Year.
Rogers, a Doniphan, Mo., native, ranked among national and MiAA leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocks before suffering a season-ending injury in late January. He had recorded a season's best 36 points and 20 rebounds against Nebraska-Omaha.
Rogers won three MIAA Player of the Week awards this season and nine for his SBU career and was also named to his third straight All-MIAA First Team and fourth straight MIAA All-Defensive Team.
Rogers ranked fourth in the nation in blocks (3.6 per game), as well as 15th in all of Division II in points. His totals would put him near the top of the MIAA in points, rebounds (8.8), field goal percentage (52%), blocks and defensive rebounds (7.3). He also ranks among the all-time SBU leaders in points, rebounds, field goals, free throws, and blocks. Rogers was also named last season's Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year.
These five players selected to the first-team are eligible for the 2010 Daktronics All-American Men's Basketball Team that will be voted upon next week.
Six players earned Daktronics Second-Team All-South Central Region honors this year after two players tied in voting. Named to the team this season is University of the Incarnate Word's Pierce Caldwell (Senior, G, San Antonio, Texas); Midwestern State's Jason Ebie (Senior, G, Houston, Texas) and Craig Green (Senior, G, Keller, Texas); St. Mary's Kevin Kotzur (Freshman, C, La Vernia, Texas); St. Edward's Reggie Shanks (Senior, F, Houston, Texas); and Nebraska-Omaha's Tyler Bullock (Junior, G, Lincoln, Neb.).
