RUSSELVILLE, Ark. -- SBU's softball season opener Tuesday at Arkansas Tech has been canceled due inclement weather. The Bearcats and Golden Suns were scheduled to play a doubleheader but the games were called off due to winter weather and no makeup date has been announced yet.
The Bearcats are scheduled to play in the Ouachita Baptist Classic this weekend in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. SBU will play Arkansas-Monticello on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and OBU at 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. Saturday, February 13, SBU is set to take on Southern Arkansas at 9:00 a.m. and Henderson State at 1:00 p.m.
Coach Christy Capner's Bearcats return a strong core group of players including three-time All-MIAA outfielder McKenzie Mortimer, third baseman Krysta Baderdeen -- one of the MIAA's top hitters last season, and junior pitcher Josie Rose, who is already SBU's all-time strikeout leader and tossed a no-hitter last season against Missouri S&T. The 2009 Bearcats set 15 school records and won 23 games, the most at SBU since 1982.
