WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The SBU indoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the Central Missouri Mule Relays. The SBU women led the way with four event victories, including wins by a pair of freshmen -- Corie Chuning and Crissie Owensby. Chuning won the 60 meter dash with a new school record, edging the previous record holder, senior Jenny Blair, in the same event. Crissie Owensby had a new personal best in her win in the 5000 meters.
Chuning's 7.84 time in the 60 meters eclipsed the 7.96 school record of Blair, set earlier this season. Ironically, Blair also broke the record finishing fourth at UCM with a 7.92 time. Crissie Owensby took the 5000 meter run, , just 30 seconds off the school mark in her first collegiate 5K. Kristen Colon, Rebecca Brigance and Melanie McVay went 10, 11, 12 in the 5K event. Blair also took first in the 200 meters (25.60), while Chuning and Tyrahnique Thomas placing sixth and eighth, respectively.
Katie Dusenberg (1:28.32) and Kassidy Porter (1:29.36) went one-two in the 600 yard run with Annie Wolfe finishing sixth. Freshman Mandy Brady placed third (5:24.77) in the mile with Chelsea Strahm coming in eighth. Karissa Fisher placed eighth in the 800 meters while Holly Hackney took eighth in the 3000 meters. The SBU women's 4x440 yard relay (4:11.43) and distance medley relay teams (13:21.12) took second.
On the men's side on Saturday, Shawn Etzenhouser won the mile at 4:21.92 while Will Hansen was ninth. Frank Grant earned a NCAA provisional time in the 200 meters with a win at 22.01, though he'd already provisionally qualified earlier this season in the event with a time of 21.65. Grant also earned tenth in the 60 meter dash. Stephan Albin took third in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 3/4 inches.
The men's 5000 meter race saw Michael McCampbell finish sixth and Ethan Knox finish eighth. SBU went fifth (Nathaniel Rogers) and eighth (Jesse Kueker) in the 600 yard run. Jeremy Glassmaker placed third (1:56.84) in the 800 meters. The men's 4x440 yard relay unit took second (3:23.10).
SBU goes back to Ames, Iowa, for the Division I Iowa State Classic next weekend (Feb. 11-13). The Bearcats competed at the Iowa State Cyclone Open on January 22-23.
