SBU women's soccer head coach Robert Podeyn has written and recently released Coaching the Complete Goalkeeper, available through World Class Coaching, at www.worldclasscoaching.com. This is Podeyn's third book, after releasing Dutch Drills for Total Team Training and Coaching the Dutch 4-3-3 last year.

With experience coaching in various clubs and camps in 45 different states throughout the country, working with goalkeepers in the Olympic Development Program at multiple levels, Podeyn uses his years of experience of coaching goalkeepers to develop the specialized drills and programs required for developing a complete skill set for goalkeepers. With detailed explanations, diagrams and photos of each drill, Coaching the Complete Goalkeeper is a great asset to soccer coaches at any level.

Coach Podeyn has experience coaching in both the U.S. and abroad, having worked with professional Dutch clubs AFC Ajax and Vitesse Arnhem. Podeyn has coaching certifications from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the National Soccer Coaches of America Association, and the KNVB, the national soccer organization in The Netherlands. As a former goalkeeper, Podeyn played professionally for the Long Island Stars of the ASL, where he was twice named league MVP. His record of 973 minutes without allowing a goal stood until Tony Meola of the Kansas City Wizards broke it in 2000.

Podeyn has spent the last 28 years as a coach, including his first season at SBU last fall, where freshman goalkeeper Megan Link recorded four shutouts with a 7-4-2 record. The Bearcats finished with a 7-9-3 record after overcoming multiple injuries to the front line. Podeyn is looking to improve upon SBU's mark next season, as he has brought in nine recruits for the 2010 season that will look to contribute immediately. Among these nine future Bearcats is Ozark High School goalkeeper Paige Hemphill, who was named to the all-state team the past two seasons.
