The following SBU Athletics Hall of Fame inductees were recognized on February 6, 2010, during the SBU Athletics Honors Night ceremony, which also recognized SBU’s senior athletes. The inductees were recognized at halftime during the day's basketball games with Truman State.
Ernest ‘Mudo’ Hall - Basketball 1989-91
From Dunbar in Baltimore... played basketball for SBU for two seasons in 1989-91... All-MIAA First Team in 1989-90 and 1990-91… MIAA MVP in 1991 ... Bearcats reached Elite Eight his senior year ... ranks fifth in all-time career assists with 319... holds SBU single-game records with 17 free throws in 20 attempts vs. Washburn … ranks second in SBU single-season assist record with 208 in 1990-91 ... Is tied for second in single-season in free throws made with 155 in 1990-91 … Selected in 1991 CBA Draft by Wichita Falls … Played for several years in CBA and USBL … Had several NBA tryouts and short preseason stints with clubs including Portland, Denver & Washington.
Sherri (Taylor) McVay - Track, 1986-89
Participated on SBU’s track & field team in 1987-89 … was Illinois high school state champion in high jump … MIAA high jump champion (multiple times) … three-time NCAA Division II qualifier (twice outdoor, once outdoor)…holds SBU records in high jump (outdoor at 5’10 ½”, and indoor at 5’7”) … held SBU record in outdoor long jump (18’ 3 ¼”) until 2009 … Broke NAIA District 16 record in high jump, and tied MIAA record in indoor high jump as a freshman.
the late Roy Fields - Basketball, 1973-75
6-6 forward for the Bearcats … Played two years for SBU, from 1973-75…averaged 20 points per game in 1974-75 … Described as SWBC’s “Mr. Everything” who was instrumental in the Bearcats’ success in his two seasons … All-District 16 and Honorable Mention All-American in 73-74 … Averaged 17.7 points and 10 rebounds per game and shot 78% from the foul line in his first year … Team was District 16 runner-up in Fields’ first season … Fields’ senior season saw him average 20.3 points and 11.5 rebounds.
Charlie Lane - Tennis, 1974-1978
Played tennis for four seasons, 1974-78…#1 singles player for SBU three years … second on SBU all-time singles wins list (105) … made four NAIA national championship appearances … named to the ITA All-American Team twice … three-time District 16 champion…two-time District 16 doubles champion … named to the NAIA All-District Team all four years.
