ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Southwest Baptist's Frank Grant, Jr. just missed a top eight finish at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.78. Grant was edged by Antonio Abney of St. Augustine's, who ran at 21.77. Abney's teammate Josh Scott won the event with a meet record of 20.91.
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- SBU baseball's scheduled weekend series at Pittsburg State has been affected by the weather again. Originally scheduled for Friday/Saturday doubleheaders, the games will now be played on Sunday and Monday. The Bearcats and Gorillas will play a seven-inning contest followed by a nine-inning contest on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. and Monday starting at 2 p.m., weather permitting.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The SBU men's and women's tennis teams were scheduled to have their 2010 home opener Thursday with Ferris State. Rain forced a last-minute reshuffle and the teams headed to Springfield's Cooper Tennis indoor courts where the SBU men topped #44 FSU 7-2 while the Bulldog women won a 5-1 shortened match over the Bearcat women.
BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The softball Bearcats won two very different games on Thursday, defeating the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons 12-3 in game one of a doubleheader, followed by a 1-0 victory in the following game. Seven Bearcats had two or more hits in the opening game, and SBU's first three hitters, Nina Amaro-Garcia (5), Katrina Munoz (3) and Latasha Baderdeen (2) paired up for 10 RBI.
